Community
This section has been provided to honor our Arizona CFEs involvement in the community. We are excited to share events such as local sponsorships and partnerships with other organizations teaching fraud prevention and fraud detection. When our members speak at these functions, they are actively promoting the CFE credentials to the local communities.
Our chapter has been actively engaged in advancing fraud examination and serving our community. Here’s a look into some of our recent events:
Shout out to our very own Don Carroll, a criminal investigator with the AZ Attorney General’s Office. After four long years of tireless work, including testifying at the State Capitol and working with two county assessors, SB 1479 was signed into law by Governor Hobbs on April 15, 2026! This new law strengthens protections against deed and title fraud requiring notaries to obtain a signer’s right thumbprint in their journal for property documents (deeds, trust deeds) and creates a system to notify property owners if the assessor receives a change of ownership notice aiming to prevent forged documents from being used to steal property.
Deed fraud has been rapidly growing in AZ with over $50m in reported losses to date. Senior citizens and vacant homes (think snowbirds) are the targets, along with vacant land.
Way to go Don! Thank you for being a fraud fighter and working to get this new law passed!
