Description:

Join us at the Industrial Commission auditorium for our regular monthly training meeting on Tuesday, February 21, 2017.

Topic:  Internet Investigative Search Techniques

Agenda: Sign-in begins at 11:30 am; presentation from 12:00 - 1:00 pm

Location:  Industrial Commission of Arizona, 800 W. Washington, 1st Floor Auditorium

Parking:  Free, on the top level of the garage just west of the building

Cost:  Free for current chapter members; $20 all others

Registration information:  Pre-registration is not required for this event. However, we encourage guests to pre-register online, as this allows you to pay your admission fee with a credit card. If you do not pre-register, cash and checks only are accepted at the door. Chapter members may also pre-register online, to save time at the sign-in table. Register online at cfe-arizona.org.

Program Description

Bill's presentation will introduce a variety of Internet investigative search topics for the fraud examiner.  Examples topics: use of general purpose and specialized and meta search engines, protection and anonymity while searching, use of meta data, retrieving deleted web content, leveraging social media, and (time permitting) an introduction to capturing and reporting evidence, searching the dark web, and patterns suggesting disposal of stolen property.

Everyone will be able to utilize the techniques as they will not rely upon LEO or public search databases.

• Recognize the need to protect yourself while investigating online

Bill Curd, PhD, CFE, CISSP

After decades pioneering cyber security and privacy, computer system and network engineering, for global enterprises, Dr. Bill Curd now shares his experience in boot camps, workshops, talks and mentoring for certification prep’ or professional growth (even for non-techies) in areas such as:

• Cyber Security, Privacy, and Risk e.g. CISSP, Security+, CISM, CRISC

• Fundamentals and vulnerabilities with networks, cryptography, social media, etc.

• Professional effectiveness e.g. different personalities, sales questions, time management.

  • Cyber intelligence and investigations, e.g. national security, anti-terrorism, anti-fraud

At Honeywell, he was lead security analyst and compliance focal for systems running SAP globally with 59,000 users processing over $35B in business. Co-developed their holistic, risk-based SAP security and compliance standard – a PwC robust best-practice benchmark site.

Previously Manager of Systems Integration and Security, Aerospace Electronic Systems, the Information Security Officer for 15 years, and Network and Data Security Officer for Honeywell. Introduced computer investigations, policies, security, networking, and awareness; strong authentication, remote access, firewalls, regional Internet access, and cryptography/digital signatures.

Bill has been vetted by the FBI, US intel' community, AZ Dept. of Public Safety, MCSO, and German Ministry of Economic Affairs (post 9/11 law protecting German defense critical entities from sabotage), held a US Top Secret SSBI clearance, and holds dozens of professional certifications.

He attended 8 universities-colleges, with 4 majors, earning 4 degrees including a PhD in electrical engineering and has taught at several universities.
